Creating SSL MySQL from Windows

Assumed that you will going to install OpenSSL and you wish to apply to your MySQL if you are using Windows Operating System.

1. Download OpenSSL from URL here.
2. Once installation done, add your bin folder of the OpenSSL to your Environment Variable.
3. Open command prompt.
4. Follow the command as below.
cd \
If you see the result return is “OpenSSL>”, that mean you have successfully installed.
5. Open the MySQL command and refer to the following line.
shell> md c:\newcerts
shell> cd c:\newcerts
6. Test your certificate.
shell> mysqld –defaults-file=$DIR/my.cnf &

How to Install IIS FTP 7.5

To install IIS 7.5 from Windows Operating System, you will need to install IIS(Internet Information Services) Manager 7.0 and above at first.

Next, you will need to install new IIS FTP 7.5 from site.

FTP 7.5 for IIS 7.0 (x64)
FTP 7.5 for IIS 7.0 (x86)

If you have installed FTP 7.0 earlier, you may need to uninstall it at first, then you may proceed to install FTP 7.5 with the installer as URL above.

To configure FTP 7.5,
1. Create folder “%SystemDrive%\inetpub\ftproot”, run “mkdir %SystemDrive%\inetpub\ftproot”.
2. Grant permission to the FTP folder. Open command prompt and run command below.
ICACLS “%SystemDrive%\inetpub\ftproot” /Grant administrators:F /T
3. Go to IIS, Create FTP site.

4. Enter name “Default FTP Site” and Physical path “%SystemDrive%\inetpub\ftproot”.

5. Enter the server IP and select No SSL.

6. Select Basic check-box and hit Finish.

Basic Network Commands in Windows

Today, I will show some Network commands used in Windows Operating System. You might use some of the command daily and some of it which is useful but you have never used it.

This is a tools that always use to check the DNS information such as ns, a, mx, txt, etc. Sometimes, it is important to check the DNS if your domain entered to the expired and you have forgotten to renew your domain name causing the domain provider temporarily change your DNS information.

tracert is trace route in Linux and it is the same like trace route, with tracert, you are allowed to understand the hop route from your PC to the server (destination).

arp -a
With the command “arp -a”, it gives you the IPs list of your internal network and easily to allow you to know which IPs used in your network if you are not using DHCP network.

ping is the mostly used to understand if a domain or IP able to return the response in short time.

ipconfig is widely used by network administrator to test out some of the testing on the internal network and the command could be /all, /flushdns, etc.

pathping is the advance(newer version) of tracert and it show you the result in another method.

How to reset Safari to Factory Setting

If you are using Safari 5 with your Windows Operating System, you will found out Safari 5 actually stored lots of cache, information, etc and result you Browsing quality reduced. You may avoid by reset the browser to factory setting.

To done this, it is quite easy and just need 10 seconds of your time.

How to Edit Windows Host File?

If you are the webmaster of a website and you often modify your script and update directly from the server, you will need to always check if you are resolved to the correct testing box(servers).

By modify the Windows Host file, you will be able to correctly view the actual result instead of the cache from your PC to the old host (if you have more than 2 hosting servers).

To change your Windows Host File, you may simply use the notepad available from the Windows Operating System, run it as administrator mode if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Then open the file located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts. Modify according to your need like example below.
