Google Offer Free Website for Indian SMBs

Today, Google India announcing “India Get your Business Online” program to offer free website, domain name and email services to Small Medium Business.

With this program, they aims to help 500,000 small medium business in India to get their product online as only 5% of Indian business appearing Online.

This program will work together by Google India and Hostgator Web Hosting company. What do Indian businesses get:

  • Free: It’s free to set up your website. The domain is free for 1 year, and it’s free to maintain your website for 12 months.
  • Quick: The website tool takes 15 minutes from sitting down to being found online
  • Easy: You don’t need to be a tech whiz to get started. All you need to start is your address, phone number, TAN/CIN or PAN to verify you as a business
  • The website is simple because customers are looking for simple information online
  • Gives you your own .in domain
  • Other features include photos/logos, integration with social media platforms
  • You get a Google Apps account – free personalised email ids

Enable ActiveSync for Google Apps

ActiveSync is important for today mobile device as it allow your mobile device to get up-to-date messages.

By default, Google Apps do not enable the ActiveSync feature alhtough it is supported by Google Apps.

To enable Google Apps ActiveSync from your account,

1. Log into the Google Apps account.
2. Click on the Mobile Options.

3. Click on “Enable Google Sync” and Save it.
4. You have done it.

To Setup your Mobile device,
1. Use your full Google Apps email address as your user name (e.g. “[email protected]”) rather than just your username (e.g “user”)
2. Use “m.google.com” as the Exchange ActiveSync server name.
3. Enable SSL.

WHMCS Email Piping with Google Apps Mail

If you are using WHMCS as your ticketing support and you wish to connect to Google Apps email. You may go through this article.

With this article, Mick Genie assumed that you have the WHMCS installed and work properly. At the same time,  assume that you have the email created with POP mail enabled and MX record pointed to Google Apps Email server.

To check if you have POP mail enabled, refer to step as below.

1. Log into your mailbox.
2. Select on Settings on top right of your Internet Browser.
3. Click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab.
4. On POP Download section, select on “Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on”.
5. Save it.

In the WHMCS department setting, configure the email setting as detail below.
hostname: pop.gmail.com
port: 995
user: [email protected]

If you done the above setting and still failed with error below,

An Error Occurred: Can’t connect to gmail-pop.l.google.com,995: Connection refused and Host: pop.gmail.com Email: [email protected] An Error Occurred: Too many login failures.

Try to perform telnet as detail below if the connection from your WHMCS server allow port 995.

telnet gmail-pop.l.google.com 995

1. You may try to check if you have firewall and may allow port 995 if it is working.
