CCleaner 3.10 Launched, Improved Cleaning Options, New Features and More

Piriform Inc has recently updated its popular free cleaning tool for Microsoft Windows CCleaner to version 3.10, which is also available as a portable version, adds support for Internet Explorer 9.0.2, Firefox 6.0 Final and Firefox 7.0 Beta. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner.

As  the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. CCleaner protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure. Easy to use and a small, fast download. CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool, it supports the cleaning of temporary or potentially unwanted files left by certain programs, including Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome, Windows Media Player, eMule, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Microsoft Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip, and other applications along with browsing history, cookies, Recycle bin, memory dumps, file fragments, log files, system caches, application data, autocomplete form history, and various other data. The program also includes a registry cleaner to locate and correct problems in the Windows registry, such as missing references to shared DLLs, unused registration entries for file extensions, and missing references application paths.  As of v2.27, CCleaner can wipe the MFT free space of a drive, or the entire drive itself.

CCleaner can be employed to uninstall programs. In addition, CCleaner allows the alteration of start-up programs, similar to the Microsoft Windows MSConfigutility. You can disable start-up programs.  As of version 2.19.901, CCleaner also allows users to delete system restore points.

CCleaner 3.10 features complete rebuild in C++, with the requirements for a portable version, 64-bit compatibility and Windows Vista increasing against the limitations of the old architecture. We decided to rebuild the entire CCleaner application in highly optimized C++. It has a faster analyzing and cleaning speed, each scanning process was rewritten from scratch and fully optimized. The result being a noticeable speed increase in all areas. Besides, CCleaner can now run from a USB thumbdrive and be installed/run on a computer without a complicated setup process. The rewrite removed all external file dependencies, so the main EXE is now half the size of the original program and support files. In this very latest version, Piriform also redesigned the user interface. The original CCleaner user interface was looking a little dated, so the GUI was redesigned with a modern look, but without sacrificing speed or usability. New icons were created for the interface and the main program icon was updated with a more modern style. And it is now possible to specify files, folders and registry keys to ignore from the cleaning process.

Version 3.10 also adds a number of new and improved cleaning options, plus promises better accuracy and reliability when wiping free disk space as well as entire drives. New cleaning options added to version 3.10 include Microsoft Search, cached fonts, SUPERAntiSpyware, Foxit Reader 5.0 and SpeedBit DAP. In addition to adding support for the aforementioned browsers, CCleaner 3.10 has also added an option for binary cookies file cleaning and management in Safari 5.1.

The program also promises improved cleaning for Opera 9’s Last Download Location feature along with Safari’s local storage, Chrome’s “Saved Form Information” and “Saved Passwords” options, plus Internet Download Accelerator. It also includes non-specified “minor optimization tweaks”.

CCleaner 3.10 is a free download for PCs running Windows XP or later. This latest release follows hot on the release of Piriform’s system information tool, Speccy, which is also for PCs running XP or later. Speccy 1.12 adds compatibility with newer NVIDIA cards, better RAID support and improved display of Operating System data, including environment variables and running processes.

A Mac version of CCleaner is currently also in development. CCleaner for Mac Beta 3 is available now as a public download for Macs running OS X Leopard (10.5) or later – as with all beta software, extreme caution should be applied before using it.
